View Full Version : Forum Clarification

Hello Chaps and chappettes
There seems to be the need to clarify a few things with regards to the makeup of Detailing World and its management.
Detailing World was born in 2005 out of a conversation between me (Whizzer) My dad Whizzers snr ( who lurks and reads), Andy C and Johnnyopolis. This conversation took place when we were at my Dads house detailing a Mercedes SL500 for my brother in law.
Basically at the time there was lots of forums about dedicated to different marques when it came to cars but nothing when it came to detailing apart from section on general forums and Meguiars UK.
There was experience from all walks of life, AndyC, from a detailing point of view and myself from a Detailing and Motortrade point of view ,My dad who has owned garages for over 25 years and has numerous years in the trade with paintwork restoration including working for Ferrari UK and Rolls Royce Uk .Johnnyopolis had experience of detailing as well as the technical knowledge to get the site up and running.
So in October 2005 DW was born. Shortly after this 182 Blue and Brazo ue came on board as moderators and Shipper came on to help Johnny with the tech support as the site got busier. At the start of this year Shipper was involved in other things so Martyn as well as Ritey came along to help Johnny with the technical side.
Early in 2006 Daffy32 joined the fold to help with the overall moderation as DW started to get larger.
We also have a few founder traders Motorgeek , CleanandShiny soon to be followed by Serious performance. Since then we have attracted the leading Uk suppliers including trade suppliers like Autobrite ,some new traders like Polished bliss ,Carwashnwax, Cleanyourcar and Elite car care.Specialist suppliers like juswheels and hopefully in the New year we will have some more interesting companies on board.
We owe a lot the the traders in their support to the forum
Now there has been recently some question over who runs the forum and who owns it. To be honest I don’t see that’s anyones business and I cannot understand why people cant just come on the forum and contribute and be done with it .I run a mutli-million pound Haulage company as my day-day job with customers like BA / DHL /AA and need the support of the DW crew on here to moderate and sort any problems out. I try to get on here as much as possible but sometimes the day job takes preference ,but just so everyone is clear.

I hope now that we can get on with talking about what we love as i have already posted in a few thread recently – detailing – anything from a Mini to a Bentley and lots in between and not forgetting the kettle and the showers.

Sorry darling, this relationship conversation will have to wait, I have a member with a problem I have to sort out!
I think theres the potential here to become a brand name, not just a forum. (just don't get rid of the forum :) )

Brands are in the pipeline and the forum isnt going anywhere as long as the support is there for it... as you are aware we have launch a few DW products with the help of carwashnwax but there are lots of things happening in the background ........
I can only say one thing, she wasnt overpleased and it cost me a heap of stuff but the situation needed my input .....

However, I do have one tiny, tiny little question to ask....:D And it's this bit...:p

Quite agree. It's no-ones business, lets all be one big happy family.
I agree too, but the Personal Sales Section is a pay service, and there are the Approved Traders who are, in effect, touting for business which gives the site a commercial angle.
It doesn't bother me, I'm perfectly happy that everything is legal and above-board, but with identity theft and online fraud being major issues these days I can understand some people being concerned - even bordering on paranoid - about who they are sending money and personal details to.
No offence to anyone here, just pointing out a possible reason why some people ask about the ownership of the site.
WHIZZER

All the traders have my details .... as far the Personal sales section agreed that one reason for clarification .... I dont mind members coming around my house i actually had one around this weekend to pick up his polo shirt ....
I even do some moving of products for a few traders that are close to my depots .....

Is it strictly 'moderators' (so that would be you, Brazo, 182 Blue and AndyC, and Daffy 32 and nobody else.) who have and have had access to 'DW Chief' or do any technical support/traders have access too.

Have to ask Why you are asking that question? What are you trying to get at?
I give whoever on the Dw crew who i deem necessary the ability to post as DW chief , Login details are changed on a weekly basis to protect DW chief but all mods, tecchies etc pm/ring email first to get the new login details. Once the login details have been used i change them the day after ..
Would you like any more detailed information ?
Fyi,
Traders will be having some admin rights in the future to be able to control their own area.
hope that answers your question

Firstly .
Have to ask Why you are asking that question? What are you trying to get at?
And that's why AndyC doesn't get DW Chief access as frankly "who runs/owns" DW has f**k all to do with anyone - including me. I was unaware as to who Chiefy was until today as it's basically none of my business.
John & Bill asked me to be involved with DW from a modding perspective last year (thank you for your faith & trust) and also because they seemed to think I knew something about detailing.
I'm part of several other forums as a member only and I have no idea who owns/runs them - again it's none of my business and I simply join in and occasionally get a telling off if I break the rules.
No-one at DW is here against their will AFAIK and if you really can't live with the way we run the community I guess the easy answer is not to let the door hit you in the a55 as you leave - again, this is why I'm never allowed to be Chief :( :D
If you don't like bluntness then sorry but I rarely suger coat stuff and we're all adults capable of taking some home truths - I've had to over the last 12 months.

All I can say is a big thank you to Bill, for all his hard work and time that he has put into setting up and making this forum the success it is today. If it was not for his efforts we would not be having this conversation today. This is the friendliest and most open forum that I have ever encountered and that is down to hard work of all of the admin & moderator team at DW. Long may it continue.
To paraphrase AndyC - if you don't like the way it is, that is unfortunate, but no one is forcing you to be a member, so you can always leave, i.e. "Put up or shut up!"

... to say im a bit disillusioned by it all is an understatement at the moment. Some of the comments on here and also some things that i have recieved behind the scenes i have to say that i not totally happy about.
The forum is here because of the community of people that enjoy detailing and recently that seems to been overcome with who can do the best details ! whats the most expensive products , who supplies them and the general baiting etc et c
Lets hope it gets back to it best

** GROUP HUG !! **
I've seen this kind of thing happen on established forums (from an owner, moderator and user viewpoint), but at the end of the day, what alot of people fail to recognise is that the site owner(s) and mods do thier jobs without thanks, praise or payment - and in some cases it actually costs them money to keep a site/forum going.
I'm really grateful that Whizzer et al decided to set up this forum - and long may it continue to help people empty thier wallets in the pursuit of the the deepest, wettest (is that even a word) and swirl free shine!

I know from earlier this year what a fair team run this site, taking time to call me ( DW Chief thanks ) to clarify and deal with an issue caused in whole by me.
Is this just a pre Christmas stress blow off by a few selfish individuals who cannot see what a great asset has been provided for us all, and for FREE ( apart from if you want to be a trader or private seller )
Come on guys, its Christmas.

Absolutely! After all the country is run by Tony Blair and lets face it-we've coped! :)
Case closed as mentioned. The DW Team do an absolutely sterling job. In whole they have cost me in excess of £4000.00 this year (one member persuading me to get a Mac, and copious amounts of detailing gear, making me drive my car too much to meets etc etc)
It has been worth every penny and every last minute of finger tapping time :)

Well basically my ironing board is situated in the west wing of my residence ala lake view and in the night the rotter kept falling down which made a ghastly noise and woke betsy and alfie my chihuahuas and the swines would run around in circles till the butler awoke me to find mess allover the floor.
I hunted on googlass and an old world war 1 fighter pilot called Colonel Handlebarmoustache suggested burning the rotter and getting someone to do it for me..
Jolly good show i thought so now pay £15 a load to this tremendously fine young filly down the stables....
Hurrah for England!!!

I'd sort of worked out from posts that it was Whizzer and Johnny that had done the original "set up" of the site, but had no other thought's on it than that.
Just take a look at what happened to the Seat Car Club site when too many people started sticking their noses in where they didn't need to. It ended up closing down cos the Admin/Mods had just had enough of the **** stiring and back biting.
Keep you nose's out, and make sure DW stays around for us all.

It's a pity when it comes to a situation where people who give up there free time to make the site possible consider throwing in the towel.........especially when it's usually caused by the "very few".
When all is said and done we have a common interest and at the end of the day "it's only a tub of wax" about which we may have an opinion and again that's something we're all entitled too have, but all it takes is to keep it civil which doesn't cost anything after all :thumb:

Well I really couldn't care less who owns this site, I know the mods have a hard time, I've been there. I used to mod/run/part own one very large forum (currently over 500,000 members worldwide) I know what it takes and the effort needed to keep everything stable.
I do blame this site for helping me make the final decision from moving from a hobbyist to full time business, not forgetting spending over £30k on it in the process, but this site to me proves every penny was well spent.
I openly admit I'm not the most level headed or thoughtful person I'd like to be, but I'm sure I'd be a lot worse without this site.
So everyone involved with the day to day running of the site.. Many thanks indeed, you all have my full support and gratitude :thumb:

None of my business really but what does it matter who actually owns the forum.
Are we not here to help, advize and encourage each other in our pursuit of detailing excellence?
I personally spend my working life training new drivers at the company I work for to try to carry out their job correctly, to obey the law, to meet government legislation, to follow the stupid working time directive, to follow health and safety regulations, to meet customers requirements while on their premises, to follow and abide by tachograph regulations.
After I've had a week of all this I like nothing more than to browse this site for info, idea's and suggestions and to pass on some of the knowledge I have gained, so whoever owns the site to me does not really matter, but keep up the fantastic work anyway:thumb:

All sounds a bit cloak and dagger, hope you guys get what ever is going down sorted. At least to the normal user whatever is going on is not be noticed, as others have said has always seemed freindly enough on here to me. Keep up the good work.
