but ive found that if i set on anything else the pics are huge .
any advice would be appreciated thanks peter
do you have manual settings on the camera?
Program Mode: This mode is marked on the Mode dial with a black camera icon and a "P." In this mode, the camera selects shutter speed and aperture, while you control all other exposure variables.

Is this the one you've got?

If it is, then I have the same. I'm not an expert in taking car photos from it yet, but I can give you some basic advice.
I'd recommend using the "P" mode for shooting a car, as this allows you to override simple settings, e.g. turn the flash off. Definitely set the resolution to 5MB, as this will give the highest image quality, and I'd also suggest playing with the autofocus, trying the center and wide focus patterns, depending on what you are shooting. This is found by hitting the "menu" button. If the subject you are shooting is in the centre frame, then use centre focus, as this will force the camera to focus there. When you use wide, it will find various objects in the frame, and select a focus point it likes.
The final word on this camera, is learning how to press the shutter button. Always press the shutter gently until the picture focuses on screen, then fully depress the button when happy. It takes a second to focus with this one, so if you just press right down straight away, you will probably get a fuzzy image.
Hope this helps.
