Hi,

Today I gave my engine bay a good going over, went down to Halfords and got some AG Engine Cleaner and the bloke said to be careful as this stuff melts concrete made laugh  , they will tell you anything.

Any way I did the best with the tools that I had available but one of the things that struck me as odd was the amount of surface rust.

Here is a little game for you have a look at the pictures and tell me what age you think the car is, my sister fault it was my old car that was 16 years old

Is there any thing I can do? As it does look very unsightly

Too much engine bay detailing:p You've washed the protective layer of grease away.

Smooth Hamerite is very good for those sort of things, in either Satin Black or Silver as required.
Lots of short brushes and double-jointed wrists come in helpful too :D
If the part can be easily removed, it is much easier to prepare and paint them off the car :thumb:

hehe close, you got first bit correct, it is a Clio and it’s a Mark II.

hehe its the first time I have cleaned the engine bay, its was like this when I built the car, only had 1 other owner.

That looks like some really good stuff, but some parts on my car are goanna be a pig to get to with out removing the engine, how would you apply that to the timing belt? (thinks that’s what it is, 4th pic down)

Surprised the car doesnt come with covers over the crank/cam pulleys, even my mk 1 Saxo had them!

4th pic down looks like power steering pump pulley, you could slacken off the pump, remove the pulley clean paint and refit it, dont paint in the grooves though
