What do you use to wash pads and microfibre cloths?! Do you machine wash or wash by hand? What's best to use...Woolite? Ariel/Persil etc, Fairy or the special cleaners like the Sonus Der Wunder Wash or the Micro Pak wash...? I'm about to put in an order at C&S and Autopia and don't know whether i should bother with these special cleaners. Ooh and Shaun if you've got that Autopia discount code that would be great ;) :D Cheers!

I like the Sonus Der Wunder Wasche - I sometimes hand wash my stuff, but lately I've taken to pouring the wash straight into the machine and washing at 30 oC, followed by the lowest spin setting. Then everything gets dried gently in the airing cupboard.:)

I have a regime for towel cleaning that borders on insanity :D

1. Rinse machine out with a small quantity of white vinegar to remove any trace of soap residue.

2. Pre-soak towels for a couple of hours in soap

3. Wash towels (NEVER mix MF with terry) usually at 40 degress, 60 if dirty.

4. Single rinse with white vinegar then further 3 additional rinses.

5. Air dry

Always fluffy and clean!

Pads;

1. Immediately after use drop in bucket filled with shampoo solution .

2. Soak pads in DP Pad Cleaning Granules (usually overnight).

3. Wash pads in Fairy liquid until completely clean.

4. Either hand or machine rinse then air dry.

I need to see a Doctor I think.....:D

Foam Hand Pads, PC Pads.

Rinse with Cold Water.

Apply Fairy Liquid direct to Pads massage in well.

Place in a bucket of water mixed with Woolite and soak over night.

Rinse, soak in plain water and then allow to dry.

Normal Mfs and MF hand pads. ( Pakshak Ultras, Microfibertech, Meguiars, Autoglym etc, any Waffle Weaves)

Machine wash with Daz/Airel liquid, air dry.

Best MF's ( Sonus Der Wunder Towels, Pakshak Ultras and Ultra Plushes)

Hand wash with Woolite as they are only used for the clio and for waxing and QDing so stay quite clean.

I thought washing machine powders/liquids (eg. daz etc) damaged the properties of some towels? I just slap them in a 50degree wash with no powder and then air dry.

Ah good good, means I can clean them properly now. Do you think tumble drying would harm them?

Not sure on the tumble drying - I have only ever air dried mine.

DON'T Tumble dry - I "think" I tumble dried my terry towels last time (can't actually remember), used one at the weekend and it was horibble....

Can anybody just explain the reason for using the vinegar?

I must admit I have used the Pakshak MF cleaner and found it to be no better or worse than fairy! It does smell slightly of vinegar though.

PC Pads immediatley drop them in a soapy solution then rinse till clean until warm water and allow to air dry.

MF and Applicator Pads - In the washing machine with some liquid detergent (no softner) stick them on a quick low temp sycle and allow to air dry or if im in a hurry for them ie if i have another car to clean tumble dry them.

AFAIK it helps remove any soap residue left in the towels after washing (chemistry stuff :) ) - all I know is it does make them a lot fluffier plus I have VERY hard water so it might help with scale issues?

Will try that next time.

What's this with the tumble drying?
Mine always go in the drier, never had a problem yet.

I suppose you could melt the fibres at high temps - MF is synthetic fibre, like nylon etc. Easily melted.

Does anyone else think really fluffy MF cloths feel a bit gross to touch? My fingers must have tiny bits that the towels catch on, and my hands kinda scratch across the towel?

But then, when I was a kid, I couldn't bear to touch that old foam from the insides of old sofas....

That's why most driers have a lower temp setting. ;)

If I recall correctly, high heat permanently damages the structure of the micro fibres, reducing the absorbancy and softness of the towel. I have accidently tumle dried my waffle weave towels before, and I did notice a drop in drying ability next time I used them. I try to dry everything in the airing cupboard now.

LOL you nasty man!

Plush ones feel so nice!

Hate the feel if you have dry skin for some reason like others have said.

Sort of extending on this, how should I clean the wash mitts I have? They are a Meguiars Sheepskin and a Meguiars Gold Class deep chenille pile. Any suggestions are most welcome.

Cheers

Dazza

PS Is it normal for the chenille mitt to shed a load of fluff during use??
