Ive got hold of some Optimum Polish. Before I have a go using it, what are the thoughts of you guys who have tried it? Also do I treat this polish like AOI, and layer #21 over it followed by a wax?
Cheers
Matt
I have had some for a while now, used it 5 or 6 times but am still gettting to grips with it. It seems to stay wet and have a really long working time, and I cant really tell when its done its job.
I find myself going back to Poorboys SSR 2 or 2,5 or DP Super Swirl Eliminator and a cutting pad to remove defects and following up with the Opt and a polishing pad as a final polish. It works ok like this for me, leaves a nice finish LSP ready. Yeah top with wax or sealant or both.
From what I can gauge its a product geared to work with a rotary better than PC.

Cheers for the reply Rich ;)
I was that impressed with the Optimum spray wax, I thought I would give the polish a go.
When you say it stays wet, do you mean it does'nt haze like other products indicating its ready to be removed?

Rich/Mattie - I have the same problem using it with the Makita - seems to take a long time to dry and IMHO SSR2.5 leaves just as good a finish. Needs some more playing before I'll be using it regularly.
BTW Rich where did you get your DP Super Swirl Eliminator from? Can't find it at motorgeek.
Matt- yeah most product wither clear of start to lightly dust. Opt seems ages to clear, and most of the time I havent got the time.
Andy - Was part of an Autogeek order mate. They had the Souveran Klasse Kit on a cracking deal so I grabbed a bottle of the DP SSE and a free light cut pad they had on offer at the same time to justify postage costs. These where highish and few Uk guys on Autopia cancelled there orders at the time IIRC.
My thoughts here

I prefer it to SSR 2.5

Hi lads,
Just a thought but it could be that Optimum Polish does NOT dry but "skins" not unlike Megs#7, which has such a high oil content that it does not dry and can take several passes before it sits nicely on the car.
The way I have seen it described is this "it's a bit like custard which has been left to stand for a bit......it gets a skin on it .
Hope that makes sense.
Bryan
Know what you mean, for a glaze thats fine, but for a polish it means its hard to know how long to work it, and see if it has done its job.

I know guys like Scottwax who work under the hot sun like Optimum because it doesn't dry out too quickly. Clearly this isn't an issue in the UK (well, at least not in Scotland!). I also read (on the Optimum homepage) that the best way of removing the residue is to spray it with OCW and then buff with a microfibre. Any thoughts on this? I don't think I like the idea of applying a spray wax before applying a sealant?
The thing to remember OCW is a true sealant just in spray form rather than a spray wax. A QD would be my choice though.
I found the OCP oily reside can be removed by changing to a clean MF for the final wipes. The last car I did using it I was following the OCP with AIO which cleaned it up nicely anyway so was not to fussy when it came to removing what was left behind.

OCW says it contains carnauba and sealant?
Would you say DP super swirl remover works better than Optimum polish or compound?
Yeah its a mixture of the two.
DP SSE Works better for me than the Optimum polish, I have not got the compound yet Rob.

Yeah its a mixture of the two.
Hence why I don't fancy sealing over the top of it! Would be fine to go straight to wax though.
Yeah fully agreed Rich, I have either used it before wax or after wax, but only ever after sealant here too.
