Hi Rich,

Have you tried cleaning the engine bay as follows: -

Engine bay cleaning, forget the power washers and steam cleaning, here's the easy way and it is VERY VERY easy and simple and only take 5mins.

Lift the bonnet.
Cover any electrics you may be concerned about with double thickness clingfilm.
Spray the underside of the bonnet and the engine bay with Autoglym "Clean Machine"
Use a long radiator brush to agitate any stubborn dirt.
Rinse using LIGHT (minimal) pressure spray.
Finally spray the entire area with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care (DO NOT agitate).
Close bonnet..........job done

Clean Machine is Biodegradable so no worries with the paintwork.

Beleive me it's taken me longer to write this than it takes to do the above.

Bryan

PS nearly forgot to comment......really nice job done there.......really nice!

Matt - Im not as bad on this car as I was with my concours 306... I was really really said on and obbsessed on that one. Underside the works!

Shaun - yeah paint is not good, I just dress mine with AG Super Sheen and not look to close.

Yeah used to do that on my 306, was used in all conditions & weathers and used in Concours comps to, the engine bay used to get dirty as it had no under tray.

Only thing I found is the AG V&R used to get thick in places you couldnt reach and become a dust trap, so I tended to only spray it on certain areas and wipe it over to to stop it going to thick. It does work well though, just needs some paint and metal polishing to finish it off.

Knew you couldn't resist for long buddy :D

That's the great thing about new cars - plenty of covers and absence of ground on/in dirt & grime. Daren't try any engine detailing on the 205 :(

LOL.

Undertrays on these new cars are a great feature, Should of really got a GTI or D-turbo one fr the 306 when I had it really, but 130 odd quid for a a piece of plastic seemed a rip off.

All they engine bays need is a nice wipe down water wise.

Rich, they look fantastic. I used to think my 205 by was clean, but looks like it's back to work with a little more effort needed. Not tried AG Super Sheen, is that the stuff that comes in aerosols?

very nice indeed

Its an area that is often missed out by a lot of people I think. I wash mine down every time I wash the outside of the car, makes life a lot eaiser .

After washing try Hyper dresser 1:6 ( adjust for your likes ) , wait 40 minutes and then wipe off the residues ;)

AG Super Sheen is the trade version of Vinyl and Rubber, comes in 5 litres sizes, same product though.

205s engine bays are a pain i the a*s*, the clio is so easy in comparison.

Wow rich that looks fantastic, know what you mean about the lower grilles lol!

I knew some one would - a royal pain to wash, de-fly, dry and dress!

I will have to try the hyper-dress when my 10 litres of super sheen/viyl and rubber runs down!

Update, more work done - After applying and extra coat of EGP this morning and doing the interior while it cured, got round to removing the plastic engine cover to finish of the bits I couldnt get to.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32/r-jay-clio/182%20Engine%20Bay/IMG_5813.jpg

Finished of polishing the Aircon pipes much easier with the cover off. They just need a follow up coat of SRP in the week now.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32/r-jay-clio/182%20Engine%20Bay/IMG_5812.jpg

Also made it easier to finish polishing the raised logo on the inlet manifold top

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32/r-jay-clio/182%20Engine%20Bay/IMG_5811.jpg

Problem being there is quite alot of fitting in the casting, which shows up now polished.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32/r-jay-clio/182%20Engine%20Bay/IMG_5810.jpg

Going to see if I can get it linished out and re-polished though.

nice work rich, what did you use on the logo ?, ps did you check for any leaks with the cover off ?

Rich

Yeah had a good look, first time the cover has been off. Was a run by the oil filler hoping that it was just carless filling!

Just AG metal polish on the logo. Its edges are bloody sharp lol!

I've cleaned and polished every inch of my engine bay for the last 2 years, never even got a sniff of winning a thing at any show (despite the cars that did win looking worse than mine) - so I've more or less given it all up, I'll just keep it clean to my own satisfaction from now on. Having said that, my last polished cover is going on tomorrow:

Rich, on my Mi16 cam cover I just sanded it down to get past the pitting, then used AG metal polish to bring up the shine.
