Serious Performance

Evening all,
Had completely forgotten about posting this detail up… A day where the weather was well and truly against us. Very heavy rain and thunder kept interupting play so not many pics but, finally got my a$$ in gear to get it written up…
A regular customer of mine from the GTROC had asked if we could detail his brothers VW Polo GTI the day before GTI International. When we arrived we were greeted by this little beastie…

After admiring some subtle mods like the Audi door handles, Mk5 Golf boot release, and smoothing of things like the door trims, we set about the paintwork. Given the amount of paintwork the car had seen over the last month or so, we didn’t expect much other than a light polish to bring up the shine and then adding a cleanser and LSP for shine and protection.
We started washing with a Snow foam and Duragloss 901 Car Wash Concentrate mix through the Gilmour, followed by washing with Serious Performance Sheepskin mitts, and again using the 901 CWC the car was washed. Drying was done coutesy of Aquatouch’s large FBZ Drying Towels.
The car was then clayed with Sonus Ultrafine green clay and using Last Touch as the lube……

So, onto the polishing. A few very light marks and the odd scuff / scratch but no real swirling as such. We experimented with a few pad / polish combinations until we settled on Poorboys SSR 2 with an SP Light Cutting Pad… Rob armed with the PC and a 80mm pad working round the bumpers and skirts, and myself armed with the Flex tackling the main panels.
It was at this time we noticed what we were gonna be up against……… Holy Milky laquer Batman!!!! http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Polo%20GTI%20Int/6.jpg
The next few hours were spent clearing almost the whole car of it’s milky top coat and moving up to SSR 2.5 with the Light Cut Pad to get shot of the few scratches that were a bit deeper in the paint. The roof was about the only panel unaffected as it hadn’t been sprayed. What was left was actually very good quality paintwork.
With the weather worsening we moved the car indoors and carried on applying Prima Amigo Polymer Glaze and finishing the paintwork with Duragloss 105 Total Performance Polish (sealant). While this was curing we set about the exhaust with Meg’s NXT metal Polish. The wheels with the Duragloss 105 and tyres with Poorboys Natural Look Dressing, arches and under the bonnet again were dressed with NLD (gotta love those simple VW plastic engine covers)!
Anyway, the Duragloss sealant was removed with Monster Fluffy MF’s and the sun poked through just in time to roll the car out for some finished pics….

The car was then whisked back into the garage to have the interior put back in, and a bottle Poorboys Spray & Gloss with a couple of new MF’s was handed over with instructions on how to QD the car upon arriving at the show…..
It was an added pleasure I received a text on Sunday from a VERY happy Virdee to say his brother had won Best Of Show in the Show and Shine comp in the Polo category, and thanked Rob and myself for the work we’d put in on the Saturday to get the car looking as good as it did… A very happy ending :thumb: .
Thanks for reading..
