My car is in need of some machine polishing to remove some swirl marks, but I just can't afford a full detail right now.
Is there any such thing as a 'half-detail'? I.e just some PC/Rotary work to remove the swirls, leaving the rest of the work up to me?
What kind of price would something like this cost? I'm happy for PM's if people do not wish to post prices on public view.
Thanks in advance.

People who can not afford a full detail can normally be priced by time. So say you could afford 4 hrs. If you pre washed the car, so it could then be clayed and a more aggressive polish used to take out the deeper scratches and leaves the finishing polishing, glaze, sealant and waxing to yourself.
A lot of time is taken on all the small bits like rubbers, doors shuts etc etc.

Agreed.... sometimes I get Customers who find the cost of detailing expensive and imaho it can be especially if the customer wants the best finish but I do advise if they on a budget they let me know what they have in mind and I'll do the best I can with that budget.
Things like wheels, windows, etc most people can do themselves ... its the skill of paint correction that most of my customers want have to pay for as its a time intensive process so if they are on a budget its better to use the paid time to do the paint correctional work that the customer cannot do themselves.
I've done a full correction on a car in the past in 4.5hrs and charged £80... ok the paintwork was super soft and car was cleaned / prep'd prior to my arrival :)
Keeps the customer happy :)

^^ thats the sort of thing I'm talking about. I'd be more than happy to have the car prep'd prior to arrival. All i need is the paint corrected so I can then polish, seal and wax it.
Shame you're not closer to Norwich, £80 is more my kinda figure atm. :)
Was this some kind of special price for a friend or something?
I too have soft Honda paint! :)

If the paint is corrected you wont need to polish it... just glaze / seal and wax...
You'll struggle to find someone to do it for that figure to be honest - as to fully correct in 4hrs you need to be experienced and experience costs money... I only did it that cheap as a favour to the customer as he lined me up for another job... :)

i think what you need to do is find someone who lives near (ish) you then call and explain, some times little jobs like this can be handy to fill a day up, say your working on a big job 2-3 days and the last day you get finished at 11-12 then a extra4-5h work is handy, so you might be surprised i would say you are looking at4-5h at any where between £25-£40ph,

Similar to Morph3ous, I would also like a 'part-detail'. If there is anyone around the Dartford/Bluewater area ( or as James b suggests that might have some available time after finishing another job near-by ) who whould be prepared to quote me an hourly rate, then please let me know. The car would be washed and ready for action upon your arrival - I also have a rotary + some unopened Mernzerna/Meguries/Z products that I would like used, so it would be just paying for your time and pc/rotary use knowledge.
Thanks
