My girlfriend has been looking for a white MX5 for yonks, and we’d even had people looking for a decent one going through Jap autions, all started when she saw a friends car. So, when that one came up for sale at a bargain price, and the hard top was a must, we pounced!

Once the car was brought home the cleaning could begin! Phase 1 has been done over the course of a few days. Single stage White heavily oxidised and generally seen little care in the last few years and hadn't been driven since May this year…

Pre-washed with APC through the Gilmour…
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/10.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/11.jpg

APC on all the shuts, bonnet and boot etc…
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/11a.jpg

Then washed with Duragloss 901 Car Wash Concentrate. Dried with Aquatouch Large FBZ Drying Towels and clayed with Prima Grey Clay and Poorboys World Spray & Gloss…. Finally getting through to the white paint!
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/12.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/13.jpg

As you can see, still lots of staining on the paint even after two laps with the clay, so a quick test with SP Paint Cleanser…. Comes off nicely.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/14.jpg

Hit the main oxidisation with the Flex using an orange light cut pad and Prima Cut (quite aggresive but breaks down very fast to virtually LSP finish) and followed up with SP Paint Cleanser with a polishing pad on the PC….
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/15.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/16.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/17.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/18.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/19.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/20.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/21.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/22.jpg

Then, for now anyway, onto the LSP. I went with Duragloss 601 Polish Bonding Agent followed by 105 Total Performance Polish (sealant), left for an hour to cure whist dressing the tyres with Poorboys Bold N Bright and a spot of lunch… Then removed with Prima Monster Fluffy Towels…. The result…

And a couple of beading shots the following day….
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/bead1.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d173/SeriousPerformance/Cats%20MX5/bead2.jpg

Since these pics it’s had new Eibach springs and a blimin good service so runs spot on now but, still got lots to do…. Remove minor swirls, finish off engine bay, wheel arches, wiper arms need replacing, a few paint touch ups and the hard top needs a bit of TLC but, good to go for the moment :thumb: .

Thanks for looking :).

Wow. That white paint is looking shhiinny!

my grandad used to have a Vauxhall astra that had staining like that! was a barsteward to get off.

Out of interest what was the reason for the gf wanting a white one?

Dunno.... I joke that it's the Essex girl in her showing through :D but, in all honesty, I'm glad she stuck to what she wanted as I think it's a cracking looking little car in white, and you see hardly any in this colour.

Yeah true. British Racing Green is a popular colour for them. a friend of mine has one but she's still jealous of my passat somehow?!?!? crazy woman

Yes although personally I've never been a fan of the BRG... Black looks good but as a daily driver I was over the moon when she said she didn't want black! ;). Overall I think white was a spot on choice. Just needs some SP stickers added now :D.

looks great mate, i love them, and like you say, look stunning in white. i like white cars, alot of people don't, but i reckon they're ace!

nice results, and i love the fact the previous owner hasn't rebaged it as a MX-5 as alot of owners of the import do!

well done. :D

Fantastic turnaround. The paintwork in the early pics looked as flat as a witches tit.

White definitely looks good on an MX5/Eunos - you've brought back the depth and wetness. How do you find the Flex?

Think they're just rolled & stretched arches on that one, but a nice set of wide arches and some deep dishes

I'll do my best to persuade her! ;)

Peter... Lovin the Flex.... Great machine. Very versatile although I do find I wouldn't be without the PC still.

Thanks for the comments chaps :).
