For those that can't afford a Porter Cable, I know I can't well there MIGHT be good news. I was wandering around Halfords and came across their tool selection. All cheap and cheerful stuff, my kinda place. Then this caught my eye. Now please bear in mind that in the shop the display model had a clip on plastic pad type base recepticle and the guard was off, it's why it caught my attention cos it didn't look like an angle grinder, as it is described.

It has a little twiddler on the top to change the speed from 1-5, and a screw on handle. Now I know all the experts will throw their arms up in horror, but at £24.99, is it an alternative that can be muddled through with? If pads were bought from proper sources obviously, not using the supplied.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=232655&categoryId=33935&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=33935&crumb=31562&varient=&CarSelectorCatalogId=&CarSelectorGroupId=#

Again, excuse the picture as the one in the shop had a different attachment and no guard, and did not look like an angle grinder, although it's described as one, therefore the picture is misleading, just focus on the information below.

Cheers.

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you seen the speed range 4500 - 10,000 rpm :doublesho :doublesho

Most rotary users work in the 600 - 2000 rpm range!

Nice try though, keep looking ;)

if you;re a beginner you'll feck up your paint. That machine is far too fast for a novice.
Also it's a total different machine type to the PC. It's not a random orbit and if thats the case B&Q do a cheap R'O one but it won't have alot of swirl removing power.
