Guys,

my bro in the States has offered to buy me a 3G iphone as a birthday present.

Trouble is, I'm on a 3 contract.

Can iphone be hacked to worked with other companies sim cards? I feel that £35 for the smallish amount of minutes you get is a bit steep, and does the O2 package include data for web browsing?

If it is possible to hack it onto another network, then does this affect the 3G performance of Safari?

I am probably a bit ahead of the game here, seeing as the phone isn't released until 11 Jul, but I thought I'd ask anyway!!

Cheers,
Russ

I've enquired about upgrading my current o2 contract to the 3G iphone, and was told they now have a built in sim card.
If you look on apples website it shows a simcard slot.

I would wait till the new version of Jailbreak comes out. ;)

Cool,

Will there be a seperate, new jailbreak just for the 3G version then?

I have heard about some tool needed to get the sim card out, but apparently a paperclip works - this could be for the iphone only though, and not for the 3G version...

For the new versions you have to sign up for the contract in store. 02 now subsidise the cost of the new iphone hence it being so cheap. So 3g iphones will absolutely be 02 only:mad:

To be honest I think the contracts are pretty good now, £35 a month and its all i will ever need:thumb:

You probably can only get one by activating in store now...the only way they can protect the phones. However they have said they will be doing a pay as you go one, which obviously could well be hacked. Expect to see it hacked around end of July with easy to use interface for Mac/Pc all round
