Does anyone have any view of how good Google maps will be via GPS - I am wondering if I can sell my TomTom or not?

Anyone looked into this much yet? I don't use my TomTom much, maybe twice a month at most.

Don't sell it just yet.....

I have it on good authority however that TomTom maps is set and working fine on the new Iphone. TomTom have trialled this on their GPS system and its good to go.

The GPS is significantly better than first expected, if you watch Steve Jobs' keynote the little demo on the zigzagging in san fran is really neat

TomTom running on an iPhone would be great :)

How much is the software, any idea? Can it be 'acquired'? :) Assuming it comes out of course...

It will be awesome if it does this!! Do you know of any decent car holders?

A case is a must for my new one, the chrome surround marks far too easily, and I really look after my phones. I have a 2 year old chrome Nokia 8800 and that is in perfect condition externally!

It works, but part of the SDK license agreement specifically prohibits turn by turn direction software from being developed. It *seems* tomtom developed software without first checking this.

In my experience, it has been hard enough to re-install TomTom software when you are the legitimate user, with a registered product, trying to put it on one device.

I suspect, therefore, that it may not necessarily be easy to 'acquire' it.

(And why should it be. If you want software, buy it)

Indeed, fair point. I probably would buy it anyway, but they normally charge in the region of £90, which is crazy when you can buy a full unit for £99 now... they need to price appropriately...

It would be nice if they did some x-platform trade up deals. I have a registered copy of TomTom Navigator on my Windows Mobile PDA - I won't get any sort of discount toward the software for an iPhone. TomTOm just don't seem to work that way.
