My step dad typed a letter up at the weekend. Saved it under a filename, printed it and off he went.

When he turned on the machine today, he goes to open a blank Word Doc and the contents of the letter previously automatically appear. I went and had a look, couldnt find anything in a menu about it, help turned up nothing. It happens which ever way you open a new doc. Tried going via Start menu, Office Folder, Open word then File>>>New. Same results every time.

Anyone else come across this?

Sounds like normal.dot has been replaced with the letter.

Make sure you have the file saved elsewhere, then google 'normal.dot replaced' or something similar to that :thumb:

Or he's accidentally saved it as his default template?

Normal.dot is the default template, is it not?

yes it is

Go to find files and folders

Make sure that you select search hiden files
Do a search for *.dot

When you find the Normal.dot delete it

Word will automatically recreat a new one when you re open word

Make sure you back up the doc first !

Or once you found the file don't delete it but instead rename it to "oldnormal.dot" :)
