Can I get my iphone to workwth a orange sim card?
Can I do it myself?
Any pitfalls?

If it's not the 3g version yes you can. You can jailbreak it and unlock. Have a look on youtube for jailbreaking. Theres a good bit of software call iLiberty or ZiPhone. These should allow you to Jailbreak, bypass activation and unlock to any network (except 3).

Yes, but only the old ones, and don't use ZiPHONE!!!! It's the only jailbreak method that can brick your iphone. Pwnage is a much better option.
