You can bring them up nicely with a decent touch up kit, I use paints4u kits.
Follow their instructions with the paint, always...

Lucky for me I had my chrome strips all colour coded when I got my Astra, so I'll never experience this problem :)

You can get touch up kits, if you're confident enough to do it yourself you simply fill in the chip with the colour & lacquer, sand it down and then polish it up.
