Ford fiesta 89
Soon to be getting a 1989 ford fiesta 1.1 on a g plate.
Getting it for nowt, so not too bad. Been really unloved and needs some work. It needs a new sump, as the old one is rusted up. The question is will a sump off an 86 1.1 fit? Tracked one down for breaking on motorhog, which is local to me, but no point getting it if it don't fit. Any one out there help me? |

The model changed in 89 from the mk2 to the mk3 I know the sump gasket is the same as that of a 1986 mk2, however the pressing may have been changed, you could also hunt around for a 1.3 sump as they are the same as the 1.1
The part number of the sump you need is Fins No 1086428 Last edited by Maurice100; 22-04-2012 at 05:35 PM. Reason: # |

Should be able to get a new pattern one cheap enough? The sumps are steel and rot badly, so a second hand one might not be too great.

Cheers for the help lads, will most probably invest in the new one to be on the safe side.
Looked on eBay earlier and couldn't find one. Is there owt I can treat it with to prevent the dreaded steel worm? |

Either have it powder coated or liberal coating of hammerite!

I hope the sump will be an easy job then. Should be no problems to replace, might use something like a liquid gasket as well as the standard gasket.
