Honda White Looking Yellow - Advise Req

Hi Guys,

After saving for a house and wedding and being sensible for the last few years, I finally treated myself to a new toy. It's a 2009 Honda Civic Type R in Championship White!

However, there was a warranty issue with corrosion on the roof so the car has been to Honda and had the corossion sorted and the roof resprayed. Now the roof looks white and the rest of the car looks cream. Upon closer inspection, the plastic bumpers/trim also look faded and yellow compared to the doors etc.

I plan to detail the car but I think I need to 'clean' the paint.

My current equipment/plan is:

Wash (Meguirs shampoo and 2 bucket)
Iron-x
Meguiars Claybar
Wash again

Paint correction with Meguiars Microfiber 2 step paint correction kit (I bought this a few years ago).

Now, from reading around on DW, I think I need a paint cleaner. Could anyone advise? Is this done after the iron x and clay?

Could also advise a sealant too please to go on after the wax? I'll be using the Meguiars wax that came with the kit. Is this still ok?

I haven't detailed in a while so I'm not sure if my products are still up to date or things have moved along. I'm open to all ideas.

I'm hoping to get it done this weekend while the weather is good so will be taking lots of pics and post results.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kaz

I have an Integra in the same colour, it’s known as Championship Cream will come up a treat when you polish it.

Looking at the list I’d look for a tar/glue remover before you clay just for speed/ease.

I personally use the Wowo’s Crystal Sealant and gives great protection but not sure what it will be like on the wax.

Hm, if I google "championship white" I see tons of pictures of a warm/slightly yellowish white. Are you sure that roof had been painted with the proper white tone? After Googling it, I'd rather think the warm white is your actual colour.

See here etc: https://www.civicx.com/threads/civic...rs.8406/page-2

Hi guys, thank you for the replies.

The paint is definitely the right colour, the existing paintwork just looks a bit dull/lifeless.

The wowo crystal sealant has great reviews, I'm going to order some now. Can I use it inbetween the Meguiars polish and wax with the da microfiber kit I've got?

Thanks again for your help.

An easily available and very good paint cleaner is Meguiars Paint Cleaner from Halfords. I used couple of years ago on my 1995 MR2 and huge difference.

Bilt Hamber Paint Cleanser Polish is excellent on white as well, by hand or machine.

Have a look at Serious Performance Ultra Gloss Paint Cleanser. It was reviewed in here a number of years back, and was found to be very effective.

I have an Alpine White 3 series, and I'll be having a look at it when it's due its summer fettle!!!

I have a Championship White Type R as well.

The colour is infact more creamy than other white cars. If I park near any other white car, they are always white, compared to my cream.

Also, my front and rear bumpers are not the same colour cream as the rest of the car

Like voon said, maybe the roof was not sprayed in the correct white?

Hi Guys,

Thanks again for all the replies.

The roof is definitely the right colour - it just looks fresher. And Dal84, I managed to give the car a good clean and yes, I noticed that about the plastic bits, they are a slighter different shade of white. The car is also cream and actually not white. How annoying! I had a Scirocco before and I was using that as a comparison. But ho hum, I'm sure I can make a difference to the paint and get it looking whiter.

Based on the advise above, my plan in:

1) Powermax Traffic film and glue remover
2) Wash Meguiars gold class shampoo with the 2 bucket method. Bilberry wheel cleaner on alloy wheels.
3) Bilt Hamer Kerosol Iron X Fall out remover
4) Quick wash
5) Meguairs Claybar
6) Meguairs Paint Cleaner (Hand applied)
7) Bilt Hamber Surfex HD on door shuts/under windows/around lights/trim.
8) Wash car again
9) Meguiars Correction compound with the G220 on the microfibre cutting pad
10) Wowos Crystal Sealant (hand applied)
11) Meguiars finishing wax with the G220 on the microfibre finishing pad
12) Dress tyres with Meguiars tyre gel
13) Dress plastics/clean glass etc.

Inside:
Vacuum and wet vac seats
Chemical guys dressing on dash/plastic (I'm not sure what it's called but it's a light blue colour).
Scrub matts with hard brush and clean.
Magic tree air freshener! haha.

Could someone confirm this is ok - I've got a lot of products mentioned above in my garage but haven't used the wowos sealant before so ordered some online.

I've also got the meguiars paint cleaner in my garage so going to use this too although haven't used this before - is this before or after the clay?

Finally, could anymore recommend another wax to go on top of the Meguiars that I can apply by hand to keep things topped up. Would like the best one for white paint so long protection/maximum depth/wet look.

Uploading a few pics now so all opinions welcome.

Thanks again for all the help.

Roof looking a lot shinier and reflective compared to the area on top if the doors

Plastic panels looking yellower than metal bodywork

Not too swirly but just lacking depth/shine
