Ah - the numbers game..... long / ongoing story made short.
Dyno 1 with original custom map gave 320PS and 386Nm - very difficult to drive as it felt all top end and rev limit raised to 7200rpm to cope. Always felt like it was in a too high a gear and never really felt good in normal driving. Still, it gave a true 135mph in Germany @ 6000rpm.
Dyno 2 with a second custom map gave 235PS and 406Nm - exactly what I wanted in terms of drivability, torque comes in much lower now and so much more responsive on the road. The mapper listened to what I wanted and it now does exactly what I asked for. Why such a low power figure from a tuned engine which gives 225 in standard form though?
Both maps give the same fuel economy of 7 miles per litre in normal driving, I suspect the 2nd map will use more fuel under harder driving because it responds more quickly to driver input.
Going to try a third dyno soon as talking to different remappers recently uncovered what a 'dark art' it really is. Ultimately, 'the seat of my pants dyno' says it should be around 300PS. Certainly surprises other road users anyway and is an absolute pleasure to drive now as the power curve goes really well with the 6 speed 'box from the Cupra R.

I have shot this for a mag at Ultimate Dubs, its hard to say this but its actually better in the flesh than in pics. (Hi Vicky!!!).

Best beetle you will ever see, end of. The attention to detail is mind-blowing.

It's kind of weird seeing the engine at the front instead the back as on the old bugs.

Somebody did mention to me at a VW show that the engine transplant from the rear to the front looked good - didn't have the heart to tell them that's how it was built

The VW Racing bodykit was sprayed by Normandale and fitted in 2005 so the paint on the two bumpers, four wings and side skirts is four years younger than on the central metal 'tub' which is original from 2001. The bonnet and boot were de-badged in 2002, the roof was de-aerialed at the same time. The car isn't a daily driver, doesn't come out from October to March and is garaged. When it does come out it tends to cover very large distances into Europe (1200 miles+) over a long weekend, often in terrible weather. The car has blemishes, marks and scratches - it was built to be driven after all. The weekend before Waxstock will see us in Holland at the MIVW show where as usual we will prepare it in the car park using a cold water tap, the products we take with us and a lot of techniques we've picked up over the years from watching far better detailers than us. We are always open to ideas, suggestions and recommendations made to us at shows - maybe we just get very advice from other enthusiasts?
Thanks for the kind words by the way, very much appreciated
