I've just had a V5 through for project Monty, the V5 no longer contains the last registered keeper ....

The car dealers will love that.

They'll not have so many irate customers learning their nearly new cars were previously rental cars.

I wondered about this as well as some emails just give me their new privacy policy.

My understanding is that if you opted in previously with consent then they can keep sending you stuff as ling as they let you know just now and give you the option to unsubscribe.

DVLA will still continue to sell your details though no doubt for a fee

Thats now in section 2 where the previous keepers details used to be and gives a disclaimer about passing your details on to certain companies.

You can no longer see how long previous keepers have owned the car either. Given the government/DVLA were so keen on dealers being open about sharing previous if they were rental companies they have kind of shot themselves in the foot.

I work in this field, so this is one part of this forum I actually feel like I know what I'm doing. Some of the stuff knocking about has been hilarious for a number of reasons. The Father Ted sketch had me in stitches as did the Nigerian prince email.
Happy to swap training on this for some detailing training.

Not sure but I assume they'll still pass on your details to private companies for the likes of minimum stay car parks, private parking offences etc. etc.

Not sure how true it was but I'd heard DVLA were one of the worst and even used to pass details to marketing companies etc for a fee!!

Surely this should be challenged somehow? If it's legal entity then fine, details should be shared, but if it's a private company then ………

DVLA were always one of the worst for this kind of thing. They got told off a few years ago for the interactive billboards - you drove past and it picked up your vrm and recommended a Castrol oil. Not as invasive as some of their practices but they still had to stop. This kind of behaviour was one of the drivers behind bringing in the new laws. Time will tell if they work.
