Well, I planned in giving it a good wash today to wash all the mess off of it from the wind this week but I went out and it was raining a small amount....

Decided to start the service (I need to buy more oil, had to use mine in wife's mini as it was leaking after its recent service from the oil filter...) so I started with the spark plugs. Everything came undone easily enough. Discovered it's got the wrong spark plugs in it....

Should be a heat grade 6, the 5s are too hot Anyway, that all went without a hitch and I'm sure it sounds a little happier at idle. Might just be the placebo effect though.

Not long after it started raining properly so I came inside for lunch and got onto looking out a Walker cat for the Xsara following Danny's recommendation. However......

It doesn't look like they do one for the Ph2 Centre section and back box yes, cat no.

Back to the drawing board.

I've never had an issue with a Klarius Cat but sadly they are NA for the Saxo.

Worth a shout if they have stocks Ben?

I say if they have stocks-the same company on e-bay list Saxo VTS ones but they don't actually have them...

I know this might go against the grain a little seeing as you like things OEM, but could you not have full exhaust system made complete with CAT? I’ve herd good things from a company called Vortex but I’m sure there’s plenty of others that would make something suitable.

The power of Facebook wins again.....

A post to a busy 306 GTi/Rallye group saying I was looking for bits has yielded:

A std exhaust system (and I'm trying to find out if it's OEM or pattern) for a paltry £15

Two offers of OEM cats

Happy as a dog with several dicks!

Another Xsara VTS popped up on eBay this week. Gold, PH2, advertised as spares and repairs as hadnt had an MOT for a while....starting bid of £125. I was intending on buying to break should the price remain low enough but it got ended early so assume a deal was done. No biggy, explaining yet another car on the drive would have been an interesting conversation.

However, what I did notice is that it has a part under the bonnet that mine doesn't and that I cannot find on Service Box. It appears to be a battery box cover, and part of a larger cover.

It's the black part on the right. It's odd. I'm not sure it's OEM, but it seems to fit perfectly......

Anyone familiar with it?

Thanks very much Percy.

Danny, yes, you may well be right although I spent an hour trawling servicebox this week to no avail.

It looks like it is a Xsara part, but perhaps not for the VTS......

Had an epic day today.

Had been invited to the last drive out of the season with the local branch of the Peugeot Sport Club.

Met in very north Leicestershire at 09:30, with an off time of 10am. It ended up being a 170 mile jaunt around the perimeter of Leicestershire, briefly dropping into Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland, going full circle back to north Leicestershire.

A superb day of mostly B road blasting. The Xsara was in good company. Another VTS, 2 x 206 GTi 180's, a 30th Anniversary 208GTi and a 405 Mi16. Surprisingly (to me at least) it kept with the 206's and wasn't far off the 208 at all. A little slow below 4krpm but kept above that, and the whole car was buzzing and alive and up to the challenge.

It handles extremely well and even more so when pushed. The quick rack, coupled with the uprated rear beam makes it an absolute joy to drive. The P6000's need to go, tucking under in hard cornering but the rear is a delight. The active element of the 306/Xsara is highlighted in the Xsara in that you can drive the rear delightfully on the throttle. Not once did I have the rear step out on me. I'd go as far as to say it handles better than I ever remember the Rallye doing...so much so, I'm considering upgrading the rear beam to a Xsara job too....

And the rarest pic you'll see for a while....2 Xsara VTS resting between periods of red line madness.

Miles of smiles.
