My car of the day, VW UP GTI.

VW's smallest car, the UP will get the GTI treatment but not until 2018. It was seen tested in hot weather recently in South Africa. As with it's bigger brother the Golf GTI the styling is restrained: there's a few snazzy stripes, a gentle spoiler on top of the rear hatch and a visible tailpipe are the clues that tell you that somethings UP! ( sorry ) Inside there's a cool - looking black dash with tiny red polka dots in it, a chunky sports steering wheel and gear knob and the usual Tartan seats. 0-60 is a shade under 8.8 seconds from the revised 3 cyl 1.0 liter petrol engine with 114 BHP mated to a six speed manual. The UP GTI will sit 15 MM lower than the base model and as with all GTI's the ride shouldn't be to harsh. When the car gets a UK release it should fetch a £16,750 price tag.

So would you:

avoid it?
short list it?
consider it?
or go ahead and buy it?

Don't really see the point of these types of cars. £17,000 is a lot of cash and you could get a 2 year old Golf GTi for that I would think.

8.8 seconds 0-60 is not really GTi performance is it?

We've always preferred Hotpoint, but I understand Samsung are doing quite well with the new add-wash range. Way too pricey, and I thought Miele cost a bit!

If my mrs wanted a small town car, this could go on the list so I could borrow it. As people keep telling us, doesn't have to be fast to be fun and bet you could thrash it a bit.
