Cheers buddy, it does feel weird in some respects owning 3 of the same car!

Genuinely used to hate Saxo's as well due to the stigma but once you drive one, you then 'get it'

I darent mention we also have a 106 track car!

Very sad to hear about the loss of the V888 service, used it to track down an 89 year old woman who was the first owner of a Mini I bought!

Lighter news, I have a folder full of Citroen documents from 1997 regarding their new product the Saxo. Not sure of the exact content but it was on a pile to be chucked out at the Citroen dealer I worked at back then, I rescued it all.

So then,

on to the 3rd and final Saxo VTS in my little collection.

This is quite long winded and will be spread over a few posts over the weekend. I personally recommend reading with a cuppa and some biscuits, or a beer and some crisps.

The 3rd VTS is an original "Press" car used by Citroen, built before the official public launch which took place in January 1997 and used alongside a number of other Press cars that Citroen would of had at their disposal. From my research, there were 13 of these cars registered for use in 1996....

First a little history to build the backstory...

The UK press were first informed of the pending arrival of the Citroen Saxo on 18th November, 1995 with an official press pack from Citroen landing in their post tray. A letter and 3 press photos contains teasers of the arriving Saxo and hints at a sporty 16 valve model being in the line up..

Left hand Drive VTS..

Fast forward to 1st May 1996 and the press receive a massive launch pack for the new Saxo that goes on sale in the UK on May 17th. No "sporty" models available but they hint again at a 16v engine being added to the line up "later in the year" A left hand drive VTS features amongst the press photos again.

Late September 1996 and Citroen Dealers in the UK start to get Saxo brochures featuring both the VTR and VTS in the range but mentions of "availability on certain models" is in the small print. A right hand drive VTS appears in the photos for the very first time but looks like an edited VTR. No rear headrests, 16v badge doesn't look real etc...

December 17th, 1996 and Citroen start running off a new brochure at the printers solely for the new VTR and VTS models which are due to be announced to the UK press in early 1997. The press receive a launch pack with press photos featuring UK right hand drive cars in the January. Make note of the two lower press photos being taken at Brands Hatch race circuit...(we'll come back to it later)

The UK press are now aware of the VTS' existence, cars start to go out to journalists and almost immediately cars are featured in Uk motoring magazines and the British television...

Despite the official launch being January 1997, Citroen had already started to build cars in late 1996 ready for orders but had also it seems, physically registered 13 cars in 1996. The sometimes criticized "How Many Left" website also seems to back this up.

Similar to the Fijian saga, I'd also been keeping my eye out for an early issue Press car for the last few years but things weren't looking too good on the survival rate either..

So as you can see there's not a lot of hope really. Only two are on SORN(P884DJM & P774CJM) but neither are on the MOT system and the last keeper of P884DJM confirmed it burnt out back in the early 2000's... Like the Fijian story, I kept a keen eye out for years but deep down I thought there was no chance.

Next update tomorrow ladies and gents on how P883DJM came out of the woodwork finally, how I eventually got my hands on it and the full low down on its really quite remarkable history. It really shouldn't of survived

Mate this is superb, what a history lesson. I think you've sold me on the MK1 looking better than the facelift version as well! Still prefer the 106 though
