1971 Type 3 Fastback 1600E

Right, well I've had a Seat Ibiza for a while now, feel I've put as much cash into it as I want, bearing in mind it will only depreciate.

So I'm keeping that as is, maintaining is stage 2 spec as my daily.

My other half has been restoring Beetles for a while now, which kind of gave me the aircooled bug (pardon the pun). This is her current 1303S:

Although seeing as we've already got a bug in the family, I thought I'd get something a little different but still cool.

Enter Ruby, my 1971 Type 3 1600E Fastback.

It's solid underneath and runs sweet as, unfortunately it's a little rough inside:

So I started stripping it:

Found some surface rust where the floor was damp, so next plan is to get the seats out, rub it all down and zinc oxide the area.

It also looked like it hadn't had a clean in ages! So I obliged...

Don't think it had been clayed in a bit...if ever...

And after a good paint decontamination and session with the DAS6 and a bit of polish, sealant and wax...

Plan is to get the interior zinc phosphate'd, new carpets, door cards, headliner, retrim the seats, then get the bumpers back on and maybe change those wheels and exhaust

Brilliant looking car. In my own opinion those wheels look great , however the exhaust could do with a fresh piece of Chrome as a replacement.

Very nice. I'm a classic Triumph & Land Rover guy at heart, but I've developed a liking for most older VW models. I like the Type 3, particularly the squareback versions,

I'm thinking of a CSP Python stainless system when I've sorted the other bits. The wheels look a bit corroded, but rears are banded. Might just get them sand blasted and refurbed, they do suit it, looks awesome rolling. My other half wants me to put Fuchs on. I'm not so sure.
