Are any of these air con cleaners recommended? I did mine last year, can't remember which but guess for a few pounds its worth doing annually

I used one from Asda which cost a fiver. Got rid of the moldy smell from a cabriolet which had sat for 2.5 years.

Stuck it in the rear footwell. Whacked the car on recirc, pushed the button and shut the door for a bit.

Can't fall off for a fiver.

HTH

I've used the Normfest Aicon bomb before and it did seem to work well for a short time. Also used the AirCon bomb from BH which also seemed to work for a short time but the smell eventually returned. What did seem to work well was both an AirCon bomb and the airvent spray: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/ca...7300&0&cc5_101.
I'm not sure if the products actually targetted the cause of the smell or just masked the smell but using both seemed to give me the best results. I also heard that using the aircon in winter would help reduce the bad smell.

Found this, which mentions bacteria buiild up in winter months: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/advi...ing-in-winter/

I've had good luck with the Bilt Hamber one (in fact due a repeat application I think).

You absolutely need to use your aircon all year round, both to stop it getting mouldy and also to keep the seals from drying out and accelerating the gas loss. I've read that 30 minutes per week is sufficient for the seals.
Thing is, aircon dries the air by cooling it, there's nothing to stop you warming the dry air up again - works wonders for preventing condensation inside the car in wetter and colder weather.

Thanks all, ordered the vent spray and bomb as per @Gixxer6 . At £10 for both (code "weekendsale") it seemed like a goer!
