Alan, you must have read my mind.....!

That is exactly my plan although I will wait j til I have found the replacement panels before I do anything. Wetsanding is something I want to try and I think this car would benefit from a good wet sanding and bring the gloss levels up further.

As for the polishing, yep, a good day at it yesterday. Pleased with the results I'm getting now. I was out in the car last night and it looked fantastic under the sodium halide lighting of the petrol station and then the street lighting!

Big Insignias are really nice cars I think. Just a solid brute of a car! You're doing some job of the paint too, starting to look great and regarding the wet sanding, I'd work away and sure if it goes wrong, well you were gonna get another door anyway (although surely if your careful it'll be fine)

Insignia doors aren't cheap!!!!!!!!

I'm probably looking at £250-£300 for a pair of bare doors in the right colour. Bet I could get these painted properly for about the same money, and I wouldn't have to faff about transferring window mechanical etc.

Niall, yes, I know.......there's a VXR being broken on eBay...£1k for the interior and £700 I think for the wheels....could quite easily have bought the lot!

As for being afraid to use it, well, yes. 140 mile drive to the East coast tomorrow. Have the emergency detailing kit in the boot.

So really pleased with how she turned out. Neither of those pics really do the finish much justice if I'm honest. Needed to get some protection in it so got a layer of CG E Z Creme glaze and then Dodojuice Purple Haze pro over the top. Really quite pleased with the gloss levels achieved.
