What to smear onto "chrome"?

I'm not quite sure what material it is ... but the Mirrors on my new Kia Stinger and the front grilles have both some dark chrome surface. I had exeprimentally tried to just put CQuartz UK onto them as well ... with bad results ... its just smears, can't be properly buffed off and leaves horrible "coloring/Streaking" (a bit like oil on water surfaces). Took it off again with IPA/Koch Chemie Fleckenwasser easily. But now I wonder what to put on it?
