Heavy scratch advice??

Hello all

I’m very new to polishing and thought I’d try polishing a few older items before my car/van/motorcycle.

I have a DAS-6 V2 and have been using Meguiars #105 - Ultra Cut to try and take some scratches out of an old bonnet and my ride on mower (purely for practice) but it isn’t touching them.

Anyway, I’ve probably got the wrong combination of pad/compound.

I was planning on buying:

Koch-Chemie Heavy Cut H8.02
Menzerna FG 400

But don’t know what pad?? Again this is just for practice on deep scratches/swirls.

Thanks for any advice

Are the scratches through the clear coat? Can you feel the scratch with a finger nail?

If so that would require repainting to fix.

What pads do you have?

What research have you done on paint correction? You know what the process is about?

Can you not see any evidence that the swirls are being corrected?

Any pad and polish will do something eventually.

Some are throughout the clear coat but it is a scrap yard bonnet and my ride on mower, so purely practice.

The pads I have ATM are just the ones that came with the DA, I wanted advice before I bought.

I have watched lots of YouTube videos, but maybe there are some people could point out to me???

The bonnet and tractor have never been polished, I mean more like lots of hedge marks, small scratches that aren’t fingernail deep

Do you mean through? Once that far it cannot be corrected.

But what are they? Whose make and what colours is usually an indication.
