Top Mount Intercooler.

Most Impreza's above 350BHP will have a front mount intercooler installed, which allows far better cooling, no heat soak from the engine and better airflow.

A popular upgrade for WRX owners is to install an STI TmIC as it is bigger, but eventually a front mount is needed if going big power.

I doubt that it was running a genuine 420BHP with a TMIC.
It would probably have cooked itself.
