Might just be that you're missing bits underneath the bumpper and its going on the towel. Or its got loads of tar on it or something.

Sorry, that was in reference to Rayaan - the standard MK5 Golf had a black plastic textured lower rear bumper, whereas my Edition 30 had a painted version. Similarly, the standard GTI had black plastic lower bumper and side skirts whereas the Edition 30 was painted from factory.

Likely to have been replaced/painted at some point. IIRC, on the MK5, only the Ed30 and R32 models had a lower painted bumper (and the R32 had a black textured effect in the middle). Did you have the car new directly from VW?
