Lightbulb My car of the day, Porsche 718 Cayman.

The original Cayman launched in 2005 was a genuine sports car, even for those of you who couldn't afford a 911. It had that wonderful sweet sounding straight six engine that was the heart and soul of the car. But now, sadly in an ever growing trend of down sized turbo engines; the Cayman gets a new 2.0 litre flat four on the basic Cayman. The Cayman S and GTS get the 2.5 litre engine, the Cayman's small proportions do make it a great fit for UK roads. The pick of the Cayman range would be the GTS when fitted with a six speed manual, 350 BHP, a torque - vectoring diff and adaptive dampers all as standard. 0-60 is timed at 4.2 when mated to the PDK gearbox and reaches 171 MPH. Porsche have updated the interior with a new infotainment system and new LED lighting. The styling has had a subtle update with the chassis also been revised. The Cayman will start at £42,895 but tick those options and some are essential then the price will sky rocket.

Like it?

Beautiful car and for normal enthusiastic but legal driving on UK roads the basic model is brilliant and all you need. I think you only need to go for the GTS or up-spec'd S version if you're into track days. For normal driving though, the standard seats and PDK are the best bet, in my view.

Huge backward step in moving to a four pot - much rather search out a low mileage decent spec earlier model with the proper engine in it

Having recently moved from a 6 to a 4 pot, have to admit it feels like a stepdown, yes its powerful and yes its efficient but its so dull to listen to in comparison

Starting to warm to porsches. I like that though I do agree with one of the above statements in that the back end just looks overly smooth and unfinished.
