Noob question please

I see on here people talking about doing 4 passes with a green pad etc

When they say a pass what do they mean? is it like 4 times over the area with the same polish or 4 times over the area with new polish each time?

When I was machine polishing my leon earlier with the S20 black I went over several times in diff directions until the polish broke down, does this equate to just 1 pass or would that be like 4 or 5?

if they say 4 passes is that say 4 times over a scratch, buff polish off to inspect then go again to equal 4 passes?

Matt

As I understand it, a "pass" is each time the pad passes over a particular spot on the paint. For a given pad and polish combination, the amount of polishing that gets done by each pass is going to depend on how fast you're moving your hands, the speed the polisher is set to and what pressure is being applied.

Take an area of 18" by 18" this is the area you are polishing, so a single pass is a starting point of the area you want polishing moving vertical first or horizontal in the area, this is then classed as 1 pass then make another pass in the opposite direction ensuring you overlap by 50%
