Concours Project, full nut and bolt restoration (VBOA National Day Winner 2008)

I'm a newbie to this site, and didn't realise that car detailing was so BIG!

I thought you may be interested in a few pics of my recently completed project. I bought a Vauxhall Nova Sport for £500 back in October 2006 and with the help of my dad have been restoring it since.

Here she is just before I took ownership... nice

The look I was after (original press photo)

So I started by stripping it to the bare shell.

The shell was then karted off and made good using panels from a low mileage donor car.

After extensive bodywork the car was painted (7 litres of 2k Polar White!)

I then started adding the trim.

The marmite of recaro's, love 'em or hate 'em!!

The engine.

The original Weber DCOE 40's (specially made for the Sport.)

New kunifer fuel and brake lines, fully polished, these were a big job.

Every single nut, bolt, bracket and fitting has been zinc/clear plated.

No stone left unturned (Quaiffe internals were fitted to the steering rack.)

Suspension and chassis components bare metaled, rust treated, zinc primered and hammerited (sprayed.)

Engine in

Exhaust manifold in Cermakrome by (very good.)

Fitting the original 'Sport' decals.

My first outing (the day after fitting the decals!) at Billing VBOA 2008. Unfortuantly my steel wheels were not ready and I had to run the alloys.

But... I was lucky enough to win car of the show (The Chairmans Cup.) Here I am with my dad.

I finally fitted the original 5x13" steel wheels

Original wheel trims

The body work has had extensive flattening, over 10 coats of resin polish, and 5+ coats of wax...

This build would not have been possible without the help of my dad, who is was very succesful in the Concours scene back in the 80/90's. His Volvo Amazon won the Masterclass Champion, International Champion and World Championship at London Olympia in 1990. Tony Dron from Classic Car magazine was quoted as saying it boasted possibly one of the best paint finishes in the world...

Hope you're enjoyed :-)

Comments welcome.

Love that soo much, I would love to find a Sport, but I have to admit it wouldn't be cared for like that.

Well done to you and your dad
