My car of the day, 2017 Vauxhall Insignia grand sport

The much criticized Insignia has had a face lift and Vauxhall have named it the grand sport. It's Vauxhalls's plan to steal sales from it's illustrious German rivals such as the BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class, a brave move. The pictures you see of the Insignia here will make an appearance at next years Geneva motor show with UK deliveries starting in June. The top of the range Insignia will feature all - wheel drive and a turbo charged 2.0 liter petrol engine with 247 BHP. The car is said to be 175 KG lighter than the outgoing model. This new look comes with higher quality materials and a more spacious interior. The new Insignia will feature apple car play and android auto, wireless charging for smartphones and Vauxhall on star assistance service. Inside you'll see a new dashboard layout, the driving position has been lowered by 30 MM with functions including massaging rear seats including heating. As well as the new 2.0 liter turbo petrol engine, a new eight speed auto gearbox and all - wheel drive features a GKN drive train technology similar to that on the Focus RS. It will also include torque vectoring for the first time on a Vauxhall. The five door hatchback will arrive first with an entry level price tag of £18,000

Very Passat esq... looks pretty smart. I'd give it a trial against mondeo, Passat etc but good luck competing with BMW and Mercedes. Even if the car was a pier I would still think most buyers would gravitate towards the German flagships.

That is one good looking car.

I can see some Volvo influence in the front, more VW CC at the rear.

Think I'd consider one if I was looking for a car in that segment, and Vauxhall are known for some pretty crazy discounts.

VXR might be interesting too...

yea passat came straight to my mind when I saw this.
if prices do start at 18k then it will be competitive but im sure once you have all the extras you need it will be a 30k+ car

Likely be a very effective automotive tool that appeals to it's fanbase (esp the range topper) and target demographic.

Wouldn't mind it as a hire car, but wouldn't buy.

Do not think it's in the class of Merc or BMW but it has appeal.

Massively better built than my 6 month old BMW - fit and finish, even on the final pre-production models I have seen is in a different league

As for looking like a Passat, having seen it in the metal its far better looking

Will it sell in big numbers - of course not - wrong badge but like Skoda - those who ignore it purely because of the badge are missing out on a bloody good car

Would I drive one - yes, but because it will not have supported lease figures then probably not - like many people its about the monthly £ and on current standings it will not be competitive
