Cool My car of the day, new Polo GTI.

The new VW Polo GTI has been released and it's been a car that's never really found favour with enthusiasts due to it's underlying conservatism. But this new GTI has been redesigned from the ground up. But could it sway you away from the Fiesta ST? The Polo GTI is a five door only which is shared with the standard car and it looks a little overly complex. even with that trademark honeycomb grille and red highlights struggle to make an impact. But under the bonnet is where the Polo GTI really shines as it shares the same EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder engine and XDS electronic front diff as in the Golf GTI. VW claims the DSG fitted auto box will sprint to 60 in 6.7 seconds and with a 1355 KG kerb weight, it should feel quicker than the time suggests. Inside the cabin are the usual appearance of Tartan seats and red stitching across the dashboard. The high mounted infotainment system seems placed in the right position. So on the face of it, this Polo GTI looks like a polished and capable car so time will tell if this car has what it takes in a very competitive hot hatch market.

Like it?

I would take that over the new Fiesta any day of the week.

Looks sharp and grown up.

It may not be radical or entirely new but on looks alone, thumbs up from me. Wonder how it drives?

I like it. Not sure about the red dash, but at least they’re trying to inject some fun.

I was also in VW at the weekend, and I liked the cabin styling, albeit in a lower spec model. The screen seems well placed alongside the instrument binnacle, so as a driver you don’t have to look down.

Fiesta is a great car, but nothing wrong with a more subtle hot hatch in this sector.

No doubt will be a capable car but it's supposed to be a hot hatch... where is the styling to suggest it... Far too dull for me.
