If the petrol is 10 years old may be the pump got blamed but the fuel might have gone bad?
Fingers crossed

Subbed, wish I didn't have to save for my wedding or I would be getting my mk2 (only a 1.6 driver) up to scratch. As it happens I have quite a few spares and new parts to get rid of that I didn't need in the end so drop us a pm if you are after anything.

Mine has a similar history to yours.
150k miles, 2 previous owners. I bought it in 2006... it had been off the road since 2003. I put it through the MOT to see what was required .. had the work done and put a 12 month ticket on it. Plan was to restore it over the next few months to a standard I was happy with. Unfortunately, I snapped an anti roll bar mounting bolt trying to remove it ... and kinda lost interest :-(.
So, since late 2006 a mate has badgered me to continue with the restoration. Maybe your project will be the impetus I need !!

Looking forward to this! I had a 1990 GTI, 1.8 8V digifant in black, big bumper, like the one above but with teardrop wheels. It was a Cnada export version, so double seatbelts and a few other goodies. I put a full Nothelle suspension set-up, with grill upper spoiler, rear mid spoiler, Neuspeed brace bars, uprated cam, etc.! The only car I have ever really missed!

So all in all quite happy with my purchase !

Everything is in need of a damn good clean but i wanted to get it fired up first and see how she runs, it turns out when looking more closely under the car that its not just the fuel filter thats missing its the complete Assembly...

DSC_1579 by Nick Foster, on Flickr

I spoke to the guy i bought the car off and it was in his garage so has sent it me in the post so when it arrives i will fit it up and get some fresh petrol see if it will fire.

Bodywork wise it doesnt look too bad,all the usual mk2 rust areas seem to be rust free, scuttle, fuel filler ect.

Interior is ok, drivers seat is torn but all others are good, fuse box has been messed with so need to check that, headlining has come away badly at the back so that will need replacing.

It does have the cassette holder in the front console which is quite rare i think and it has upgraded kenwood speakers front and rear in the original places so no nasty holes in the parcel shelf !

When speaking to the guy before i bought the car he thought it might have been tuned at some point with an uprated cam shaft there is a label on the front slam panel intrapro engineering ? There is a rolling road printout in the service history showing its output at 150bhp which is 11bhp above standard.

Will update more when the fuel pump assembly turns up
