BMW M5 V10 - Diary

25/09/2016

Right so I have decided it was time to get another motor, those of you that use the forum a lot have probably at some point seen one or two of my threads:

Ford Racing Puma (Refurbishment) http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=141157

Renault Sport 182 (Refresh) http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=348885

Renault Sport 172 Cup (Track project) http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=356913

I am getting to the point in life where this year we have managed to purchase a property and are getting married in September of next year, so the next thing on the cards is a family, therefore I need to purchase a new motor more suitable. Luckily I work from home so I have the added bonus that what ever motor I get running cost in terms of fuel is not an issue.

Given that a family car is required and I am a motor head nut there was a few options out there, perhaps a nice 535d, and nice Audi estate anything practical really for a family with a touch of motorsport to it, HOWEVER I couldn't tear myself away from the thought of getting a M5, so after a month or so of looking I found the perfect one, a lot more than I wanted to spend but it had the prefect colour combo and one owner from new with just 42,000 miles on the clock.

Its based in Newcastle which is a long drive from where I live so I have put a deposit down on it and intend to fly up there in a week or so to check over it and then make the 5 hour return journey.

Needless to say I cannot wait to pick it up, its been a car that I have thought about for years and lets be honest with that V10 507HP engine its a poor mans super car

From this purchase it will also mean that I can fully strip the Cup down and have it solely as track car.

I have read a lot in to the M5 and the costs associated with it and possible issues however I have decided to take that risk and its nice to have a lovely modern reliable car.

I keep toying with the idea of an M5.

E39 or more recently an E60 just for something more modern.

Looking and reading up on them so much it seems everyone moans about the gearboxes but I've seen lots for sale that have just recently had the new clutch etc all done on them.

I think if you know your cars, you know the issues and you are happy then who cares right?

If the car is a toy/labour of love you go in knowing what to expect.

So with that said, I hope you REALLY enjoy this and oh..one more thing...

I forgot to mention that I will be looking at a warranty cover for the car, so far it seems that it will be around £115 a month for engine cover and £250 ish for full car cover.

As previously mentioned I know that if ANYTHING goes wrong with this car its likely to cost thousands, the good thing is that I can't see me doing more than 4000 miles a year, but I still think as a minimum I should get the engine cover.

For those interested its the Silver Stone blue exterior and interior with brushed aluminium dash finish (no nasty teak dash thank you very much) Has most of the extras that where available at the time for this model excluding the air cooled seats.

This is a message that I got off the garage:

"Hello David

Thank you for your enquiry on the BMW M5 that we have for sale.

I worked for BMW in the sales department and my colleague Simon was Sales Manager for around 8 years. We both can’t remember ever seeing a used M5 as good as this one.

The car is in fantastic condition with only 41,700 miles on and a service history to back the extremely low mileage. The service history has 9 service stamps including the 1500 mile running in service. We have just had the Oil Service, Brake Service and Vehicle Inspection Service completed by our local BMW Specialist.

Unbelievably the car has only had 1 owner..!

We acquired the vehicle from a BMW main dealer.

The car is in totally original condition with the Silverstone Leather interior looking as new as it did when it left the factory. The rear seats have hardly been sat in…!

The specification is superb and includes Head Up Display, Navigation, Sunroof, Heated Seats, Electric Seats….the list goes on.

The photographs will come to you in around 5 emails.

I hope that this helps

All the best"

oh and did I mention, I CANNOT wait to drive it. Do feel as though I have bought a car blind as in not seeing it but we have an agreement that if the car isn't completely A1 condition as have been informed I get my deposit back, I know you can't always trust a garage but so far I have nothing to see that concerns me, its just had fresh MOT and passed without issue, I have done a HPI check against it and asked my mate who works at BMW to carry out history file check on it, and the servicing book matches the BMW dealer system.
