Some one give me a trick to this range rover gloss black trim. Its eather correcting then re swirling when removing the resedue. Ive tried ipa at different dilutions and panel wipe. Wet micro fiber and dry microfiber
Cheers todds i just tryed a microfiber madness drying towel. And some qd. No good! Ive took them as far as im happy to now so quickly put some CS on just so they dont mark up while in the unit. Nevet had an issue before. Hey how thats detailing for you
I feel your pain, the B pillar trim on the Leon Mk3 marked like crazy. Similar trim on the BMW F30 seems much more scratch resistant.
I haven't found anything yet that will not leave very fine marks in soft piano black plastic.
The best that I can come up with is to use an acrylic based glaze or gloss enhancer with a good amount of fillers to hide them. CG Wet Mirror Finish seems to work better than Black Hole, to my surprise.
Hi mate, what polish/compound are you using bud as I always use a DAT polish as it's easier to remove when you've completely broken it down then I use Carpro eraser with a plush MF towel and I ve never had a problem with inflicting any marring or fine swirls.
This was done yesterday on my cars black gloss trim the same as the bi pillars, I used Menzerna FG400 on a blue cutting pad followed by Sonax PF yellow Rupes pad
I had a similar issue on the gloss black parts on a Pirelli Aventador. They were a nightmare.
I ended up having to use a three step process -
Keramik on a yellow Rupes pad removed with Kirkland MF (short side) and Carpro Eraser
Koch Chemie Lack Blau on a white Rupes pad removed with a clean Kirkland MF (short side) and Carpro Eraser
CG Blackhole on a ultra soft black finishing pad - removed using another clean Kirkland MF (soft side)
First stage removed the heavy scratches and swirls but left quite a bit of marring. Second removed virtually all marring left from the first one but the cloth itself left a tiny bit behind.
Final stage removed/filled the minor marring left over from the short side of the cloth and then sealed them too. The BH wipes off incredibly easy after 15 mins cure time so by using the soft side of the cloth this meant with one or two wipes residue was removed and no marring was left.
It was an absolute pain to do though as the actual area of gloss black on the car was massive. I had to change out the yellow and white pads to totally fresh ones after each set too as the polish residue left further marring!
Was a huge headache and I was glad when he sold that Aventador and bought a regular one with much less gloss black!
I feel your pain bud, they can be a nightmare to correct.
The best way I find is if they are really swirled up use a compound and pad to go in aggressive with that combo but not a lot of pressure. I done this the other day on a badly swirled up car using my Rupes iBird corse blue combo and it removed 90% of all the deeper swirls and scratches then finished off with the yellow Rupes pad with Sonax perfect finish.
Be very careful to when using a panel wipe as some are a lot stronger than others as we found out the other day, I tend to use Carpro Eraser, but this other panel wipe I use marked the finishand it wasn't the plush MF towel I used, so a lesson learnt.
