Moldova car hire

HI folks,

Has anyone got any experience of car hire in Moldova? I'm heading out there in a few weeks, been looking at various options.

Sixt have an X5 which for a week is going to cost £750(ish), which is not too bad I guess, but the excess is £5k! If I put the excess waiver on the total bill comes to over £1k - not ok!

I've found a local company - Luxcar Moldova, who are offering X5/X6/Range Rover sport for Eur450 for the week, much better price! But I'm just being cynical that they are legit, they ask for no money up front and to pay cash/card on collection.

Anyone got any personal experience, or even better - recommendations?

Thanks,

Peter

Try Auto Europe, I use them every year and find them very resonable:

Not sure what car crime is like out there, you may not want to have anything too prestige as it will attract attention.

Also take out your own excess policy here, its a lot cheaper. Search on the usual insurance sites: go compare, money supermarket etc.

Definitely get your own excess insurance here. Costs about £40-£50 for a year and they will reimburse you for any excess costs you incur. I had to use mine once, had a flat tyre whilst in Spain and the bill came to well over 200€ because you get a flatbed to come and take you and the car back and then put you in another car. I had to provide plenty of documentation to the excess insurance company here, but nothing unreasonable. They paid out just fine and I was not out of pocket.

I've just checked back and I used Questor and it was a bit cheaper than I remembered. In 2015 I paid £33 and in 2016 I paid £30. I'd made the claim in the first year so it didn't affect the renewal at all.
