Karl Vella

Somebody has gone into my car earlier today

She has been taken off to a compound for now given the time of collection and everywhere being closed for the day...insurance company wants to send her off to Karl Vella for the repairs.

I'm not actually convinced it's repairable as the steering is knacked

Any positive, neutral or negative comments/experiences with Karl Vella?

I think they are the insurers approved centre, but they will do an assessment and make a report as to whether or not its repairable.

They are indeed. I'm hoping to get a sense of their standard of repair in the event it's repairable. I doubt Merc have their own body shop but obviously want the best standard of repair if it goes down that route.

FWIW, and you probably know this, you are under absolutely no obligation to accept the insurer's choice of bodyshop/repairer.

If there is one you trust, you are at liberty to use that instead.

I went to my local (Blackburn) one about 8 years ago to get a quote for respraying the rear bumper on my (then) Vectra GSi! They wanted £1300.. to ...respray... a... bumper....

Comedy quotes that see too many cars unnecessarily scrapped...

Reviews on here are a bit mixed

http://www.carsandgarages.co.uk/gara...page=2#reviews

If you have the third party details there should not be too much difficulty in your insurers agreeing to the garage of your choice, all their costs are recoverable including your excess and hire car costs.

Hope this helps - we had a repair done by them on one of our work cars, a 64 plate corsa. (It was the Skem branch)

Read a few reviews online and didn't want them to touch it but I called them up and pointed out I wanted a perfect repair.

Call 2 days later to tell us it had a previous repair done badly on the back (we found out a few days after purchasing - it was an insurance job) but they had included a full repair and it had been authorised.

Got invited down a week later to inspect the car and fit the stickers, TBH they done a bloody good job, couldn't fault it and we had access to their workshop to fit the stickers - they had to get it done before we could accept the car.

Repair was top notch and a good warranty on it, it's a red corsa so we where worried, but I would use them again. My advise would be the same as anywhere, give them a call, mention the words flawless, paint depth and detailing and you'll get a good job. Will see if i can find any before / afters
