Thumbs up My car of the day, new 2018 Toyota Aygo

Toyota are on their second generation Aygo which has had a mid-life face lift and it looks as sharp as ever and is bound to continue selling well in the UK. For all of Toyota's work on this up dated model, the one thing remains unchanged is it's aging and gutless engines. The Aygo has a big task as VW's up!, Skoda's city-go and Hyundai's i10 have moved the game on somewhat. The Aygo's external design has had a big change as all models come with LED daytime running lights and LED taillights along with a new selection of alloy wheels and vibrant paint colors to choose from. Little has changed inside so all you get is new seat fabrics, a redesigned instrument cluster and new seven inch infotainment system. The Aygo will start at £9,695 for the entry level VVTI-X model raising to £11,375 for the range topping X-play model. Although the engines remain the same, a new fuel injector is fitted, higher compression ratio and lower friction engine components are key features for improvements. Other key changes are suspension and steering settings and thicker sound proofing. First deliveries are expected next month.

Why have they fitted it with Gimp mask?

What they need is a WRC inspired version.

Looks a bit like Darth Vaders mouth bit.

I quite like it.

I'm assuming we'll see more non-eu vehicles on our roads if we don't have some sort of trade deal. I'm guessing more American and Japanese vehicles.

Aygo is an EU vehicle - built in Czech Republic

The 3 pot engine in these is a gem and the car itself is a great little car

I really like the look of them, they really should use the 1.2 that the C1 and 108 use though as the 1.0 is a little low on power.

Thanks for posting. The attraction is the badge on the front which means better than average residuals and hoped for reliability. I know someone with an early Yaris, 150,000 miles and untouched apart from service items. Not sure that this one will be quite so good.

Pity about the aging engines in this new model.

Back end looks fairly unchanged, not sure about the front end though.

I love driving the wife’s, it feels like a little go cart, this is an automatic with paddle shift, and once you get used to using paddles it’s great fun and revs like a motorbike, ok it’s not the fastest motor but it really makes me laugh..lol. Not so good being overtaken by a HGV though makes you wobble a bit..lol. But as for size I’m 6’3 and 24 stone but drove it to Gatwick just a few weeks back almost 3 hours and didn’t ache one bit. I couldn’t last that long in my Range Rover sport! The inside looks identical to the 2018 aswell.

Hoping the rear lights on the new 2018 model might be straight forward swap over
