In a way it’s overdue a replacement but in another way it’s a very nice car and still thoroughly modern and the current model is (thanks to the aged platform) unusually generous in terms of standard spec for Mercedes and the deals are incredible. I managed over £10k off list getting a pre specified and pre registered one for my wife. Helped that it is a diesel one though, petrol ones had much less discount, but still a lot. My only gripe with it is that the media screen doesn’t line up with the middle of the dash console, it’s off to the left and it really riles my OCD. Other than that I cannot fault it. It’s a brilliant grown up 2 seater and with the discount I managed it made it only a very small amount of money more than an MX-5/124 and it has those beat on toys but it’s not as fun to drive. Didn’t matter to me though I don’t really drive it and when I do it’s sorted enough for me.

Sounds like a good deal you got even though it's a diesel. I looked at these for my OH granted a number of year ago and they were about 10 grand dearer than the MX5 with a lot less spec so it was a no brainer for us.

She's on to her third MX5 now though the new RF is very much creeping up in price so might be our last.. ..

I was very lucky to find one when I did as my timing was unusually accurate! The turn away from diesel meant there were deals to be had, Mercedes dropped the 250d engine in the SLC a couple of months before I went looking for it and it happened that by that point the only trim in offer was the AMG Line trim which is well equipped with LED lights, lane assist, dual climate etc etc. Ours has the proper leather, heated seats and air scarf, COMAND nav, the bigger wheels, keyless drive and a load of other bits I have no idea about added and as it’s a diesel it has the 9 speed auto box as well. List was £42k, I got it for £28k with delivery miles. Chuffed with that tbh

Not a fan - looks nondescript.

There are better small convertibles than this - even the old style SLK AMG looked better. Mercedes should have dropped it when the rumours started that they were planning to, and saved themselves some money developing it!

lol - agreed. I only said it looked better, didn't mean either of them were good (or pretty)!

IMHO, the SL is a great car though.
