Meguiars Microfiber - quick detail - query

Hi All

This time last year I purchased my DAS 6 with the Megs Microfiber System.

About the same time I bought a 2 year old MK7 Golf GTI, and found this combination perfect for me/the condition of the car.

I don't know if it was a waste, but I had some Swissvax Shield left, so topped it off with some.

Anyway, now my query! As some very fine swirls had appeared over the last year, yesterday I decontaminated and clayed, then went light with stages 1 & 2 and again topped with Swissvax. I am very pleased with my achievement, but just started to wonder whether I've done the right thing by using the Megs system. Would it be overkill to do this every 6m? Could I be working away too much at the layer of lacquer?

If not, then I would like to stick to this regime ideally.

Thanks very much.

I wouldnt want to be doing this every 6 months. Especially if you didnt know how much lacquer was on the car when you originally got it. If you have a paint depth gauge you could get a better idea of how much paint your are removing with each polish.

I think a good quality ceramic coating on the top will add a layer of protection as it acts like a layer of lacquer so will protect the paint. Then maybe once a year you could remove it and see how the actual paint is looking then reapply another ceramic coating after doing any corrections.

If you're concerned about taking off too much clearcoat I would suggest looking into the Glare system. It lets you polish as much as you like, since it effectively adds clear rather than taking it away.

Thanks for your replies.

How about using the Meg 205 for my 6m light tidy up?

Not used anything other than the Microfiber System before!

Thanks

Does this do very minimal cutting then? Really wouldn't need much correction at all. What sort of pad should I get for least cut? Wax after?

Thanks

Works for me! (use 15 minuts every month or 2 months, just fantastic)

Ah, now that is really useful, thanks. Just what I needed to see! So the Finish Wax with its pad gives a light cutting action.

Some threads indicated that M205 would be needed, but my maintenance is pretty good, so I'll do the same as you.

Thanks
