Is this an average price for training?

So I contacted my local detailing shop to ask if they do machine polishing training.

They emailed back saying yes and that a 2 day course would be £250+vat per day!!!

£600 for machine polishing lessons!!!!

Is that a normal price?!!

It that one on one training, or a bigger group?

He'll have a wage to earn and lots of overheads to pay.

I'd think that he counts a days detailing to be what you'd pay.

Buy a scrap panel and learn it yourself mate!

As others have posted, if he is good he will be able to make £250 per day detailing, why would he give up a day to train you and take a pay cut?

This. Time isn't free. He has rent, insurance and other bills to pay and it all really adds up.

Firstly there are many professionals on DW that would offer this service and I would safely say that price you've been quoted would be about the average. For this you should get one on one training to develop your technique. This would also involve PDG readings, taping up, residue control, pre prep and post polishing wipe downs. There will be many more things I've either overlooked or that one pro will do differently to another. To gain this experience is invaluable and if you can justify the outlay then I'd say it would be money well spent. The caveat to this though is now you are possibly back to square one as what cannot be taught is the difference in paints and finishes you will come across. This in my view would be where scrap panels come in. Get some random ones right across the board and find what works and doesn't. This also might involve an outlay in extra pads, compounds and polishes. If you think a weekend wax addiction is bad on the wallet get ready! A polishing addiction when you factor in machines, pads, liquids and sundries is far, far worse bud!

only joking.

another issue if your in the same area would be why train you so you can undercut him?! (not that you would but he wont know that)

It's a company employing a number of staff not a one man band

Not sure if I'm allowed to mention them on here.
