Brilliant update. Damn you move quick. I bought a new (to me) car last month and all I have done is wash it!.

re: the compression, it also proves the valves aren't burned and all is equal. it's not just about the rings

Some great progress there

Given the blockage on the outlet side of the oil cooler, it could well be the fault - wonder if there was a previous head gasket failure and someone tried to flush the coolant system but didnt know about the oil cooler which was already clogged,and therefore they didnt fully rectify the system
