Spear & Jackson Sprayer Issues

Hi all. Around a month ago, I bought a spear and jackson 5L pump sprayer to apply koch chemie greenstar. I havent had the chance to use either until today.

I diluted 10:1 (250ml GS: 2.5L Water) into the foam sprayer. I can't get it to actually produce a mist or a water jet. I wondered if it was because it wasn't at full capacity to I emptied the mix into a bucket and filled with 5L of water.

Same issue. Not much apart from the occasional splutter. When i press the trigger, i can hear and feel air shooting out of the end of the wand but not much product. If I tip the container upside down then it does produce a water jet so today I had to accept that as my fate and carried the bottle around upside down under my arm.

I have tried pumping it 25x as it says on the side of the container, and then tried pumping it less and more. Its like the pressure isn't enough to force the fluid into the tube for the wand.

Obviously that is not an ideal situation! Quite annoying to be honest, especially since i know lots of people use this exact sprayer.

On another note, I only had the GS on the paint for about 3 or 4 mins then it randomly began to snow heavily (was sunny literally 5 minutes prior) so i panicked and used a standard hose to get rid of the GS rather than allowing it to dwell. I could clearly see the cleaner areas where the GS had been applied even when only been on the paint for a few mins and washed off with a standard hose!

Anyway, if anyone has suffered similar issues or has any idea what i could be doing wrong then let me know.

Thanks

Where did you buy it from ?

Have you stripped it and checked all clear - poss shouldn’t have to do after a month, but worth checking.

Could be worth looking to return it as you’ve only had a month if you can’t see a blockage...

Yeah I had a look. Seemed fine and I haven't ever used it before today so would be odd for something to be blocking.

I Bought it off amazon. Nothing worse than returning stuff online its such a hassle!

Amazon are generally good from past experience - shouldn’t have thought you’d have an issue after only a month.

B@Q had the Hozelock plus sprayers on offer - £20 for 5L and £23 for 7L.

Could be worth a look ...

Is there a pipe that goes to the bottom of the container?

Is it seated properly at the top?

Sounds like the pressure in the container is escaping from above the liquid level?
Hence it works when upside down

Spot on forsh. Just had another look and the tube where it fixes to the wand just inside the bottle was cracked. I simply flipped the tube around so there was a secure fitting to the wand and the cracked bit is at the bottom. I putt it all back together and is working fine now.

Will probably leave it if it continues to work can't recommend green star enough it looks like a very good product from my first use!

I had the same problem and ended up replacing the tube with some windscreen washer tube I had.
Just started to have a leak fro the wand that I cant seem to cure so I might stump up for the hozelock one when I get chance to go to b&q.

I have 2 of those 5 litre sprayers.
But I've found over time that I never used more than 2 litres of prewash to coat a car so have reverted to a 2 litre sprayer.
You may find the same.
