Polished Exterior Trim

According to my cousin his black exterior trim on his car are looking awful due to his mother cleaning his car with a bucket of water and Polish

I have not seen it yet but apparently he can't seem to get them cleaned up, he's tried some shampoo, quick detailer and covering it with trim gel but once it wears off its back to how it was originally.

So my question is what should I try to clean the trim up? Apc maybe?

Thanks.

What type of polish are we talking about ? A car polish or a household polish ?

There are quite a few forum post about cleaning trim, you should be able to get a few ideas reading them. e.g. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=398179

Depending on the trim,I assume it's not textured then a finishing polish and pad does the job.
