My fiesta diesel had this problem, although it got worse and all the gears were becoming stiffer. Which made me think clutch was on its way out or the selector to the gearbox was a problem which is common on the fiesta mk6.

Turns out it was neither the previous garage that had bled the brakes (don't know if bmw's are the same) hadn't bled the 5th nipple on the clutch and this made things much smoother. Thought id mention it as an idea even if its not helpful.

As far as i know from paperwork its on its original clutch at 148k miles

Now at 234,000km, and I gave it a quick once-over with the DAS-6 polisher.

It’s come up quite nicely. LSP is Fusso Coat.

Apologies for the M-badge on the grill, it was a Christmas present and my son likes it!

It’s still running nicely, uses no oil, does what it needs to do.

Cheers all

The tough gear change from 1st to 2nd is quite well known on BMW's. The gearbox fluid change helps but to cure it further, you need a slightly heavier gearknob. Most people went for the clubsport version as it has a little more weight than the standard one.
