Cheapest Paint Thickness gauage?

Any tips on the cheapest, but DIY effective, paint thickness gauge?

Not looking for anything professional grade, just something to give me an idea as I build up my poor-man's attempt at a detailing kit.

Many thanks,

Thanks, has it proven reliable? I would hate to buy cheap & find it's still reading XYZ when I am polishing through the undercoat...

Careful there, the car paint consists of different layers.
The cheapest one's measure just the clearcoat. Height here is expressed in microns (1micron = 0.001 millimeters) - if your clearcoat is for example 100µ, that's 1/10 of 1 mm..

Hence a paint thickness gauge that's not in µ won't be of any use..

I got the paint detective. At 220Ł quite expensive, it lasts for ages and is of a top notch quality. Although, this one doesn't have the cable you'd like...
I use it as well when I help friends check cars for possible resprays...
