Passport Photos

Evening All,

I’m looking for a bit of advice from anyone who’s renewed their passport lately, I’m due a renewal of my paspport and want to do it online as it seems much less hassle than the paper passport forms of old.

However, I havent got anywhere with adequate lighting or plain background to take the photo at home, which leaves me looking for somewhere to take it for me. Max Photo and Photo Me claim to have photo booths that will email them to you or give an online access code, but I cant seem to find one in the Derby/Notts area.

Has anyone actually found/ used one of these fabled machines? I’ve heard of places like Timpsons taking photos for you but couldnt find one near me that could

TIA

Ben

I just did this recently. Had some photos taken for a new driving licence at the usual booths in supermarkets etc. With my passport application I just took a picture of the picture I had done and uploaded it. Went through fine and came within a week!

Photo of a photo, didn't think of that! Doesnt the passport photo regulation state you need a digital image with all your upper body now though? I assume the photo booth images are still just of your head and partly shoulders

My local Post Office takes them about £7.50 for 6 images
I’m sure if you asked nicely they would email you a copy

I took my own by hanging a white bed sheet over a door standing in front of it, my compact camera has an ID photo mode which puts a frame on the camera so then whoever is taking the picture just has to match up your chin and tip of your head with the frame on the camera, it then prints out in about 6 different sizes suitable for driving license, passport, visa’s etc. I done this last year for my USA visa and to renew my drivers license.

I did mine all from my phone, application, photo and payment. I just used the front facing 'selfie' camera, plain wall behind me for the picture. Was nice and simple!

Yep, I did the same. When you submit the photo online it checked the photo was ok and then let me proceed with the application.

Another selfie user here. We have a grey bathroom wall so stood a couple of feet away from it (seems to reduce shadows compared to standing close to it) Used the room lights rather than flash and the result was fine.

One thing I did was use an editing program to ensure that the shot I sent was the correct 35:45 ratio and that the crown to chin proportion was correct as advised by the online notes about photo size and spec.
