Good news today

Car was in for it's biggest service at Lexus today and I had given them a couple of things to look at.

Once again the warranty comes good - MOT reported "very light misting" on front shock absorbers, so asked them to look as suspension getting crashy, etc

Warranty covering the cost - £898 fitted - cost to me zero!!

Shows you how superb the Lexus Extended Warranty is as the car will be 11 in 6 weeks time! Warranty has paid for itself multiple times over, over the last year.

Collection car tomorrow as shocks arriving tomorrow and the car is on the ramp just now.

That's fantastic!!!!! Lexus appears to be brilliant at after sales. My neighbours have an nx300h and an is300h, and they absolutely rave about the service they get at their dealership.

I may just venture in that direction when I change my car.

The dealers are absolutely one of the reasons I went back to Lexus with this car - there is no one even comes close. I think because the quality of the product is so much better put together than most French or Italian cars (I know from having many) that the dealers are less stressed, less under pressure from warranty to get out of every claim as there will be so few claims.

However, they are also incredibly picky so they will always look to get a car back to showroom levels of quality and remove all issues - taking in a 20 year old Lexus to them may take a leap of faith as it may get expensive

Luckily they are luxury Toyota's, so the underpinnings are extremely well built and very reliable.

Well, you can't beat that - I've heard good things about Lexus after sales and this is just confirming they really do look after you

Fitted the new hose to the Nilfisk - vastly superior to the plastic nonsense on there. Also gave the car a decent wash yesterday before it went into the dealer with the DO NOT WASH notices on the job card and inside the car!

Service done successfully, and my Lexus Owners Card saved me £74 off the cost! Well worth the cash.

The shocks - only one arrived from Lexus - the other was out of stock but the dealer not told, as two ordered at once apparently - not in until Friday - so I have my car back (with one new shock) and it's going back in on Tuesday to get the other one done The service manager said the Lexus Warranty is absolutely superb, and his experience of working for VW, Ford & Citroen were the total opposite. I asked him if the shocks would have got through an MOT in a years' time (when it is due) and he said quite easily - the leak was VERY minor Just need to keep on building a list of anything that can be warranty repaired before it ends at the end of July next year to keep my bills low

As ever, great service from Lexus, did not wash the car or touch it inside, but did do my tyres for me

Also managed to save about £60 retail by using my own oil.

By the time I have had the car 2 years and my Lexus Warranty runs out, the savings on the warranty and the Lexus Owners Club card will have more than saved me the cost of the entire car!!

Yeah - really hoping to keep it.

I am planning to Bank the money I have been paying for the warranty and use this as my car “warranty” fund if no major financial things get in the way although this might not happen as about to fit a new roof, roofline and roughcast our entire house . The warranty was paid over 12 installments but Lexus and Toyota were doing buy 1 year warranty, get a second free!!

I may add the warranty also includes comprehensive personal AA cover for both myself AND my wife in any car and cover Europe, hotel accommodation and all the usual top line perks.

I am really hoping to build the car up in protection all around, solve all the possible issues I can and keep it in as good condition as possible. I really like the fact it’s nearly 11, still under warranty and is running as good as new.

I do have a few plans for the car inside and out too which will see it last for a good while yet. Also - it’s a Lexus. I’d really need to be unlucky for it to start causing major grief, although some things are not cheap!!

Double edged sword ! It's a Lexus so should be reliable .. its 11 years old .. when things go wrong they can be VERY expensive. Are there any independe Lexus specialist near you ? Could be an option for the jobs you can't do yourself.

No specific Lexus folk I can find but not had too detailed a look as being looked after by Lexus. Can also use Lexus fixed price repairs and servicing after warranty as it’s reduced for cars over 5 and with a discount (and me supplying the oil) I will still get it well looked after.

Also, the service manager is good in terms of what I’d actually pay for versus what would be paid for as it’s under warranty.

I’d love to get a cheap garage car that I can pull apart and Work on - a Yaris or similar and can build some skills that allow me to work on the car a bit more. Potentially servicing could be an area I could do as most parts pretty accessible.

It is a double edged sword - but I suppose ot’s Pretty low mileage (just about to hit 90k), I know what the car is like and needs but it’s always the unknown / that’s probably why so many people are frightened of either older or high mileage cars. However, if I am sensible I could run this car for a lot less than investing in a new(ish) one, especially as a new one is £52k +
